Crochet, knitting and yarncrafts

What do we do?

Crochet, knitting, macramé, tatting and any other crafty things that can be done with yarn that are not already covered by other S&GU3A groups.

What level of knowledge is required?

The group includes members who are learning new skills from scratch and others who have many years’ experience. At present we are concentrating on crochet and covering the basic stitches. We aim to have complete novices making basic items such as scarves and hats after a couple of meetings. Crochet really is very easy to learn.

What materials are needed?

Members are expected to provide their on basic tools such as crochet hooks and knitting needles, but we have tools to lend to beginners. We aim to be low cost and encourage recycling. Crochet hooks, knitting needles, patterns and yarns can be found in many charity shops, car-boot and jumble sales. Crochet projects do not require much yarn and odd balls can be purchased cheaply at markets and wool shops.

Members pay 50p per meeting for refreshments (optional).

How many in the group, and are there any vacancies?

We have been getting around 8 or 9 people per meeting. We should be able to accommodate 10 to 12 per meeting.

Where do the meetings take place?

We meet twice a month 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon in members’ houses in Shaftesbury, Gillingham and the surrounding area.
