Each activity is organised and guided by SGU3A members who give their services freely. Teaching methods are informal to suit the leader and the group. Most study groups meet in members’ homes. For further information about the U3A and our activities please click on the set of links above.
SGU3A holds a regular meeting for all members and their guests on the first Thursday
of every month (except August). Coffee or tea is served from 10 am and the meeting
begins at 10.30. The venue is The Christian Centre, off Christy’s Lane (A 350) and
Wincombe Lane, north-
Guest speakers talk on a wide range of subjects. In the past we have heard about the experiences of theatre managers, traffic wardens, mounted policemen and stunt performers. We have learned much about the wildlife and conservation in Dorset and of the mysteries of the many stone circles in our area.
Occasionally one of our study groups will talk about their activities and each year we invite a local charity to tell us about their activities in the county.
SGU3A General Information
Virtual U3A
The concept of Virtual U3A originated in Guildford. When DVLA took away the driving licences of some members and they were dependent on friends for lifts, they suffered from withdrawal symptoms when they couldn’t get to U3A meetings. So the alternative vU3A was born, entirely operating in cyberspace (at www.vu3a.org) on the internet. With a computer, and broadband access, they, and you, can participate in online groups as if in a physical meeting but without leaving home.
This is an entirely separate facility to that offered by SGU3A and is noted here for your information only. For more information and how to join, go to www.vu3a.org and complete the application form. There is a small annual subscription.
